The weather is nice enough to start doing some metal work again, so I thought I'd get started on the elevator. I ended up putting in about 13 hours today, and actually got as far as I could go until I get some more parts from MAM.

This assembly went together pretty quickly even though there are a couple of steps that are pretty tricky. One of the upgrades for the Moose is the addition of two additional ribs that run diagonally between two existing ribs. It's very easy to measure the prescribed distance on the spar and drill holes and rivet the new rib to the spar... the tricky part comes when you have to figure out where under the skin this rib is going to be, so you can start drilling the holes in the skin and rib flange. After scratching my head a bit, and taking very careful measurements, it all turned out very well.

I completed the skeleton and have completely drilled all the required holes except where an external doubler goes in the center where the V for the rudder is. One of the changes to the elevator on the Moose was to widen the V in the center. This was done to make room for spar doublers on the vertical stabilizer. The elevator skin I received has the wider opening, but the doubler I received has the old narrow opening. This means that none of the pilot holes in the doubler match up with the skin. I've contacted MAM regarding this, and they are sending me the new doublers. In the interim, I think I'm going to get started on the rudder.
