A work shop isn't much good without a good working surface in it. I used the plans supplied by Murphy Aircraft with my kit to build my main bench, but I made a couple of small modifications.
First I used MDO for the bench top rather than plain plywood. MDO is a voidless 7 ply paper faced 3/4" sheet. It's pretty spendy, but I only needed 2 sheets for the top. The result was a kitchen table smooth work surface that isn't hard or abrasive.
The second modification I made was to put a storage shelf across the bottom. This is a great place to keep all the things that you need handy while working on a part.
